A tip about defunct counties
Sometimes counties from the past are absorbed by others- often after a brief existence- like these in No. Carolina and Georgia . Make sure to check county histories to avoid overlooking them. Others are created after splitting from a larger county. Present day Citrus and Pasco counties, for example, were part of Hernando County until June 1887.
