The Irish Potato Famine

 The Irish Potato famine of the 1845-1851 caused hundreds of thousand of Irish to leave their home country for the U.S. We were surprised to learn that the blight that destroyed much of the potato crop in Ireland was imported from the east coast of the U.S.
